Daniel Phill: Botanical Abstractions

25 February - 13 March 2022

Nüart Gallery presents “Botanical Abstractions,” a solo exhibition of new abstracted botanicals by Daniel Phill. The exhibition will run from February 25th to March 13th.

"Botanical Abstractions," is a collection of abstracted botanical paintings deeply inspired by the stunning natural world. First and foremost a colorist, Phill pieces together organic shapes in his abstractions and teases images from splatters of paint. Known mostly for his abstracted botanical imagery, the paintings bear his signature bold strokes and improvised gestures.

“I aim to create paintings that are organic and unfolding, playing between the boundaries of abstraction and representation,” Phill explains. He often relies on intuition, trusting in gestures and mark making that come with a spontaneous approach. Demonstrating an impressive control of his material, Phill describes essential details—long, slender tendrils become reeds, pressed and flattened pools of paint turn into petals.

Over time, Phill’s style and output continues to evolve; he views his work as a continuous discovery of what is possible in life and in his art. Through his canvases, Phill’s artwork evokes uninhibited emotion, while guiding viewers to see and understand the transformative power of landscape, boundless color and awe-inspiring nature, leaving countless impressions on interested eyes. For Phill, observing the natural world keeps him engaged in his art; while for the viewer, his artworks can help one bear witness to the imaginative power of the natural world.
