Nüart Gallery is pleased to present, "Deconstructing the Myth in Black and White," a solo exhibition of new work by the artist Michael Bergt. The exhibition will run June 17th through July 3rd 2016, with an opening reception on Friday, June 17th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The artist will be in attendance.
Michael Bergt’s exquisitely rendered figurative work references ancient Greek mythological narratives and archetypal imagery. A master of Renaissance painting techniques, such as egg-tempera and cross-hatching, Bergt’s contribution to the canon of artistry inspired by Greek mythology is significant.
The exhibition, "Deconstructing the Myth in Black and White," consists of ten new, strikingly elegant large-format pen and ink works that straddle both the contemporary and art historic spheres. Borrowing their inspiration from fifth century black, Greek, vase painting, Michael Bergt’s new work re-visions classical figurative archetypal imagery in a fresh and contemporary manner.
Michael Bergt’s works are highly prized by knowledgeable collectors and have been lauded by art critics and art historians. The artist has been exhibiting his work for three decades and has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibition nationally and internationally including the Center for Contemporary Arts, Santa Fe, The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the Frye Art Museum, Seatt and the Arnot Museum, New York. His work is held in a number of public and private collections.
