Nüart Gallery presents “Alignments,” a solo exhibition featuring new work by Kevin Tolman. The exhibition will run June 28th through July 20th 2024 with an opening reception on Friday, June 28th, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
Alignments is a solo exhibition with new work by artist Kevin Tolman. In this exhibition, Tolman creates his abstract work employing a variety of mediums to invite viewers on a contemplative voyage through the intersections of celestial bodies, earthly landmarks, and the human spirit. Through this collection of paintings, audiences can explore the intrinsic connections between order, structure, and the sacred.
Central to the exhibition narrative are Tolman's reflections on the cyclical rhythms of nature, particularly the profound influence of the seasons. Inspired by the timeless allure of sites like Chaco Canyon in New Mexico and ancient European stone circles, Tolman unravels the mysteries of ancient alignments between sun, moon, and earth. These revered spaces, once imbued with spiritual significance, serve as poignant reminders of humanity's enduring quest for connection and transcendence.
Tolman's studio is a passive solar adobe space designed to embrace the sun's radiant energy. Reflecting on the symbiotic relationship between architecture and nature, Tolman shares his deliberate process of aligning his studio with the winter solstice, ensuring optimal solar exposure throughout the year. This thoughtful integration of environmental awareness and artistic practice underscores Tolman's consciousness of holistic living.
