LA | Anne Kaferle

15 June - 6 July 2024

Nüart Gallery presents an exhibition featuring new work by Anne Kaferle at our Santa Monica location. The exhibition will run from June 15th through July 6th, 2024 with an opening reception on Saturday, June 15th,  from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.

Bedding Plane is a solo exhibition with new work by artist Anne Kaferle. In this featured exhibition, Kaferle continues her painterly exploration of an erosional desert landscape by way of both intimate plein air and larger-scale works. The exhibition takes its name from a geological term describing a boundary surface between two sedimentary rock layers, which differ in texture or color. For Kaferle, these natural divisions mirror the profound shifts in environmental conditions over time, encapsulating moments of serene beauty and intense transformation.

In her work, Kaferle employs mineral pigments that flow and settle under gravity’s influence, emerging as color-field paintings that capture the essence and fluidity of the natural world. These works, rich with velvety textures and vibrant tones, reflect the mutable landscapes they depict—each piece a testament to the constant, inevitable forces of change shaping our planet.

Anne Kaferle, based in Helper, UT, is a landscape painter whose works are prominently featured in collections across the Western United States. Her art, emerging from extensive explorations of Utah’s dynamic landscapes, reflects a profound connection to the natural environment. This deep engagement with geological themes has established her as a significant voice in contemporary landscape art, and her contributions have been recognized through prestigious artist residencies, affirming her influential presence in the field.
