John Tarahteeff’s works are striking figurative paintings that present succinct compositions, unusual lighting, and subtle undercurrents of psychological turbulence. His figures are placid, but the emotional subtext is palpable.
In this exhibition, Vestiges, Tarahteeff carefully crafts his images using formal design principles, and lets his subconscious inform his choice of imagery. The resulting narratives contain visual archetypes of figures from different eras, engaging in ways that are compelling and yet unknown.
