Nüart Gallery presents, Les Ouvrages du Ressentir, a solo exhibition of new mixed-media paintings by Guillaume Seff. The exhibition will run July 31st through August 9th.
Guillaume Seff is a French artist known for expressive abstract paintings with lush surfaces and passages of detailed markings that create the feeling of words or thoughts. Nearly a form of visual poetry, Seff’s practice is rhythmic and viscerally lyric. In their nuanced exploration of our human emotional fabric, the paintings communicate what language cannot.
The exhibition, "Les Ouvrages du Ressentir," is a collection of abstract paintings that capture moments of Guillaume Seff’s deep understanding of the human emotional landscape. “The paintings,” he writes, “could be seen as observations of extracts of humanity’s emotional DNA, all the while studying its writing… or quite possibly its rewriting.” The compositions in this body of work vary in density and tempo: sometimes distinct, organized segments, other times as fleeting smatterings of mark making; sometimes solid masses of color, and at other times foggy drifts of shape and texture.“Emotion is transient, whereas feeling settles and moves in a long-run temporality,” Seff writes. “The paintings are testament to the history of these elements.”
Guillaume Seff was born in France and currently spends his time between Montreal, Canada and Toulouse, France. His work hangs in public collections in both France and Canada, and has been exhibited throughout Europe including in Paris, Brussels, and London, as well as in Santa Fe and Montreal.
