A: Abstract. Botanical. Paintings.

Q: Can you share with us a bit more about your creative process?
A: My creative process involves lots of observing and photographing of flowers, plants, vegetation, landscape and bodies of water. I describe my method of painting as deliberate spontaneity. I often start off with a rough sketch of a composition on a blank canvas laid flat on a table. I pour, drip, and drag paint wet-into-wet. I create in part by improvisation and a growing knowledge of how to manipulate the medium.

Q: What are your sources of inspiration?
A: Travel, nature, and landscape are the primary sources of my inspiration. Observing what the natural world provides is key to keeping me engaged in my creative endeavors in paint.
-
Q: What motivates you to continue to create?
A: Painting has been a part of my life since I was very young, it invigorates and inspires me. I paint because I am passionate about the freedom found in being an artist. Most days I simply can’t wait to enter the studio. It is particularly motivating when some viewers of my paintings are moved in such positive ways.

Q: Your work is clearly inspired by nature — can you share more with us about the natural landscapes which have moved you - and your work?
A: The natural landscapes which have moved me and my work are centered on the West Coast of the U.S. The coastal landscapes of Washington state, where I grew up, have been a long-term inspiration. California and Oregon landscapes are bountiful sources of nature which inform my work as well. I am continuing to explore my abstract interpretations of nature using the emotive power of paint.
